with Drypoint & Chine Collé

Drypoint printmaking is a type of engraving created with a sharp tool that scratches a drawing onto a smooth surface such as copper or acrylic plate. As the image is scratched into the surface, a burr is left behind, and that burr holds ink that leaves a beautiful velvety line on the paper when printed. Chine Colle is the process of gluing paper to the print as it is going through the printing press. The glued paper can create a subtle texture, or add a hint of color to an otherwise monotone work of art.

In this class, you will experiment with a brief private journaling process to help you determine a subject, working within one of three given themes: Home as a Concept, Labor and Class, and Gender and Expectations. Through these exercises and questionarre answers, you will prepare an idea based on your own personal symbolism and relation to your chosen theme, and we will use drypoint and chine colle to illustrate your concept.
